[ june is sure he's going insane.

he sees the shape of a cat following him in the dark of his apartment, and he thinks that it's a flicker of the light at first, a trick of the eye as it adjusts in the poor light. but he sees it again, in the space between his clothes and the closet wall. he sees it twice from the far corners of his bed, the tail disappearing around the corner as june races after the sight of it.

there's a cat, but there isn't.

he's resolved to get some proper sleep when he trips over luci on his way to the apartment's tiny kitchenette, the cat yowling as june turns to stare at it with eyes wide and bright in surprise.

there's a cat in the apartment.

june kneels on the floor and carefully reaches for the cat, picking it up gingerly and setting it down on his lap as he checks the collar. ]

Where'd you come from, huh, little guy?

[ the cat doesn't struggle, rather, goes limp in june's hands, easy to pick up and carry into his lap. luci makes himself comfortable where he is as june checks his collar with the aforementioned details. when luci looks up at him, his eyes are a wide, bright amber, strangely deep in how they look at him, as if examining both june and his surroundings.

he purrs like an abnormally loud diesel motor, and when june is through with his investigation, headbutts his chest with more strength than a small cat should have. enough to say "pet me" aggressively. ]

[ june needs little encouraging, as his fingertips scratch along the soft downy undercoat of the cat's - luci's - belly. it feels nice to hold a living being like this and not feel like he needs to put up an appearance of normalcy; cats may judge you, but as far as june knows they can't talk back (yet). he'll take silent judgment over vocal disappointment.

...and he may be projecting a little. still, the genuine laugh that erupts from somewhere in june's chest when luci purrs and bats at his fingers is a bright sound.

he could love this weirdly fragrant yet sulphuric-smelling cat. ]

So... Tristan, huh? [ he reads off the tag once more. tristan, where has he heard that name from? ...ah, the boy with the cards. magic boy has a cat? interesting. ] You're Bea's cat? Did he feed you yet?

[ the name of the game is "make this person love me." and luci is definitely playing the part, tail swishing back and forth playfully as he paws at june's fingers like a game, settles them on his chest to sniff him, remember him, and then digs claws in slightly to clamber up onto his shoulder. he's rather dexterous for a cat, maybe more so than a typical one - lithe and moving almost like he doesn't have any weight.

as if to answer june's question, the cat licks it's chops pointedly. tongue small and pink and sticking out just slightly afterwards like it's stuck in the middle of the motion.

luci knows how to be endearing when he wants to be, after all.

but shortly after, he lets out a little, scraggly meow, long and pitiful!!!! ]
