» II. GROWING PAINS

Seo-jun was born to Cha Namyong and Park Yoojin in a car park in Busan, South Korea, when Yoojin's water broke during a trip to an art gallery. The circumstances of his birth served as an omen for his life's trajectory, as Seo-jun proved to be anything but an ordinary child.

The first indication of this occurred during Seo-jun's early years. Seo-jun was a difficult child - he was constantly testing the patience of the adults he interacted with, and gave his parents endless grief by refusing to do as he was told. He wasn't an undisciplined child by any means; he was a very sharp child who understood how to behave appropriately in any given situation, but only when he felt like it. Instead, Seo-jun would dare adults to discipline him, doing things that are clearly inappropriate or wrong just to test how others might treat him as a result of his actions.

In what would be the cause of his removal from his first school, Seo-jun brought a hunting knife to class, where he confronted a teacher and told her on no uncertain terms that he brought the knife with the intention of hurting someone. While Seo-jun had no intentions of actually using the knife on anyone, the school administration - fed up with the boy's antics and misbehaviours - strongly requested for Seo-jun to be transferred to another school or be expelled. Seo-jun's parents chose to have him transferred to a private international school.

It's at this new school that Seo-jun met Justin Myoung, a well-mannered honours student who would become Seo-jun's closest relationship for the next few years. Starting out as friends, the two vaulted their skinship into a highly physical relationship shortly after they both turned fifteen. Their relationship was volatile, in part due to Justin being an upperclassman to Seo-jun. Though the two attended school at the same campus, Justin would minimise his association with Seo-jun as the years went by due to their different social circles. As time went on, Seo-jun began acting out in retaliation to his perceived abandonment by Justin.

Seo-jun's misbehaviours quickly turned into misdemeanours, which then escalated into outright violence and pomiscuity. However, Seo-jun's increasingly erratic behaviours only served to force Justin to further distance himself from Seo-jun, and even though Seo-jun's parents attempted their best to keep him in line - or at least in school - they eventually left him to his own devices.

» III. FINDING GLORY

Things changed for Seo-jun when his parents announced that they were moving to Prague due to Seo-jun's father's job. Seo-jun, in a moment of vulnerability, attempted to mend his frayed relationship with Justin by seeking him out after school; he was turned away instead, to which Seo-jun responded by picking up a rock and breaking Justin's jaw with it. After the ensuing scandal, the family left South Korea ahead of schedule, with the family's relationship with each other strained as a result of the humiliation.

Seo-jun finished his education in Prague, where he continued acting out. Unable to form any kind of friendship in this new environment, Seo-jun would sneak out at night, breaking into homes and cars for the thrill of it. One of these nightly excursions, Seo-jun caught his father in what he assumed was an affair, and followed his father to a hotel where he met up and spent long hours in a suite with a woman.

Enraged, Seo-jun followed the woman to the parking lot after she parted ways with Seo-jun's father, where he accosted the woman and stabbed her repeatedly on the throat. However, instead of dying, the woman's wounds healed immediately, to Seo-jun's utter terror.

The woman then proceeded to beat Seo-jun to near-death. Seo-jun would not wake up until weeks later.

» IV. CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR

Seo-jun woke up in a plain room, disoriented and in pain. Certain that he's not in a hospital, he attempted to leave and was immediately restrained - by none other than his parents, along with a handful of people June recognised as "family friends". He was sedated by his mother and then led to a small room where the woman who beat him introduced herself to him as Gloriana II of the Dominica - Seo-jun's father's longtime employer.

Stunned into silence, Seo-jun could only listen as his father informed him that the woman he'd stabbed had been the woman his family was sworn to serve, and had effectively humiliated his father to the whole organisation. Fed up with Seo-jun's behaviour and actions, his father announced that he was disowning him and leaving him at the mercy of Gloriana's whims as his punishment for years of bad behaviour. Gloriana then offered him a choice: to work for her as his father had done, or to die alone, knowing he's been abandoned by his family.

Terrified of the alternative, Seo-jun chose to work for Gloriana, effectively signing away his freedom to a lifelong service with the Dominica. He was then informed that he was already given a gift, having initiated and witnessed Gloriana's temporary death; this was the reason for his long recovery period, and Gloriana had contingencies for the possibility of his refusing her offer (that is, he would have been killed immediately, then and there).

Under Gloriana's orders, Seo-jun was assigned to Tim and Christine Verland, two enforcers operating under the cover of a married couple, who trained him in tradecraft for two years before moving him to Cambridge, MA., where he continued his training. Tim and Christine attempt to connect with Seo-jun, treating him as an adopted son, to little effect.

At Christine's suggestion, Seo-jun adopted the name June, as well as dropped the dash in the romanization of his given name, mostly in an attempt to give himself a new identity. June then applied for and was accepted at MIT under Gloriana's instructions, where he picked up electrical engineering and computer science.

» IV. THE REDEMPTION ARC

It was during this his stay in the United States that he becomes aware of the dissenting faction within the Dominica, and is unwittingly drawn into fray by David Warner, a field agent who supported Gloriana's removal from the Dominica. David enabled June's need for validation, and eventually led June to murder Karla (an empath and loyalist to Gloriana) as "proof" of June's affections. Terrified of being abandoned again, June lured Karla into a safehouse and killed her by overloading her abilities, essentially frying her brain.

In the resulting chaos brought on by Karla's death, David cut ties with June, which led to June confronting David and killing the man in a similar fashion to Karla. Faced with the knowledge that Tim and Christine would be sanctioned as well for not preventing Karla's death, June offered to take their punishments during his trial, in turn bringing June to come to terms with his actions from childhood to this point. Gloriana relented from punishing the Verlands directly - instead forcing June to to choose between Tim or Christine, saying that he can't save them both. June chose Tim, who told June that he's forgiven the boy for what he's done and will have to do, but that Christine never will.

June killed Tim Verland with his bare hands, refusing to use his ability on the man. He was then sent to work under Gloriana's direct supervision as part of her personal guard, where he does his best to live up to the organisation's intentions to improve the world for the greater good.

» Personality.

( + ) LOYALTY — June is a very loyal person, though his loyalty often comes with a price at first. He'll do anything for the people he cares about, from killing for them to dying for them. This trait has backfired on him several times in life, however, which makes it hard for him to trust people easily, but once trust is established, he's one hell of a loyal friend to have.
( + ) TENACITY — June doesn't know when to quit. He'll work himself down to the bone to get what he wants, or to accomplish a goal he wants to achieve, and this extends to his work ethic as well. While he's not a genius at what he does, he makes up for it by refusing to give up, and he's learning to utilse this characteristic for the sake of other people rather than just for himself.

( - ) NEEDINESS — June is constantly seeking validation, and he'll take it from anyone and everyone who's willing to give it to him. This trait is what led David to use him for Karla's murder, and even after the whole mess of his trial he's still struggling to temper his neediness, mostly to no avail. June can be easily manipulated because of this trait as a result.
( - ) POSSESSIVENESS — June isn't very good at letting people go. He gets very jealous when the people he likes turn their attentions towards other people, and he can be very unpleasant to deal with when he gets it in his head that he's being replaced by someone else, or that someone is planning to leave him behind.
( - ) ABANDONMENT ISSUES — Corollary to the above trait, June has severe abandonment issues, primarily due to Justin's and his own parents' leaving him behind (justified as they have been to leave him). This trait makes it difficult for him to engage with others in a healthy manner, like verbalising one's feelings in a respectful way or addressing resentments in a non-aggressive way.
( - ) ENTITLEMENT — Due to his upbringing, June oftentimes takes certain things for granted, like certain luxuries in life. While he's not extravagant with his spending, June's never properly learned to scale costs of living, given that his parents provided him with a privileged childhood and Gloriana allots a considerable fortune for his personal expenses.

» Abilities.

CONTROL OVER SENSORY INPUT* — june can control a person's sensory input, including from remote distances, though currently he needs to be able to have a line of sight to assert control over another when using his ability from a great distance. he can "blind" a person to his or someone else's presence, removing himself from the person's perspective, range of hearing, or even sense of touch. his ability also allows him to overload or dampen a person's senses; he can make a breeze feel like blades cutting through the skin, or entirely numb a person from feeling the effects of being stabbed or burned. the closer he is to someone, the more effective his powers are; with direct contact, it's almost impossible to overcome his ability, even for fellow ranked agents within the Dominica.

*June doesn't use his powers on sexual partners without their express permission, at first because he believes he doesn't need to, and later on because of his powers' association with Karla's death and the guilt resulting from it. He does, however, have no compunctions with using the ability for functional purposes, where the ability would be used without hurting others. He also has no problem using his powers on others if his life is being threatened.

LOCKPICKING — He's a self-taught lockpicker, a skill he picked up from years of breaking and entering into people's homes and vehicles. He's constantly working on improving this skill, and is secretly proud that Gloriana appreciates the initiative.

ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING & COMPUTER SCIENCE — To complement his gift, June is adept at electrical engineering, particularly with computers. This wasn't his choice; Gloriana had instructed him to learn these skills to round out his ability. June is a natural with it, however, and he finds some enjoyment in using what he's learned to improve his skills in breaking and entering.

STREET FIGHTING — He's a capable fighter, having been given training by gloriana's men. He tends to fight dirty as well, which he feels is necessary when compared to his peers in the Dominica (he's one of the smallest and least-experienced among them).

» Relationships.

CHA NAMYONG & PARK YOOJIN, the parents — Cha Namyong and Park Yoojin did their best to raise June properly, but they prioritised their work with the Dominica more than they prioritised raising their son. As a result, June has a very fractured relationship with his parents, which isn't helped by the fact that Namyong chose to disown June after being humiliated by June's actions. Their abandonment of June is one of the biggest sources of June's emotional issues.

JUSTIN MYOUNG, the obsession — Justin was June's first and last relatively healthy relationship, which June ended literally with a rock to the face. June was unable to separate his sexual interest and emotional dependence from his genuine affections regarding Justin, which resulted in his perceived betrayal when Justin rightly refused to accept June's attempts at reconciliation. June now understands that he was a total shit towards Justin, and that Justin has every right not to want to hear from him again and more; June has yet to get over his desire for a relationship like the one he had with Justin, however.

KARLA ANDERSTROM, the girl he murdered — Karla was a loyalist to Gloriana's leadership within the Dominica. A very powerful empath, Karla was tasked with rooting out the faction of dissenters within the organisation. June was seduced by David into murdering her by causing her powers to overload, essentially frying her brain. June feels great remorse for her death, which is compounded when he found out that he was used for the specific purpose of murdering Karla.

GLORIANA II, the undying woman — A cunning and relentless woman, Gloriana gave June the choice between living alone and working for her. Having chosen to work for Gloriana rather than live on his own, June was turned into an agent for the Dominica under Gloriana's orders. Because of what June did to her when they first met, Gloriana exerts considerable influence over the trajectory of his life, and is one of the people June is terrified of. They have a complicated relationship, as Gloriana would occasionally act motherly and affectionate towards June one moment, then cruel and domineering in another. June simultaneously wants her affections and despises her existence.

TIMOTHY & CHRISTINE VERLAND, the handlers — Timothy and Christine Verland were assigned to overlook June's training, operating under the cover of sponsor guardians so that June could move in with them in Cambridge, MA. They genuinely care for June, which June has trouble reciprocating in a healthy manner. June is very protective of them, all the same, and after David Warner's and Tim Verland's death, Christine becomes the most important person in his life. Unfortunately, given the circumstances, June no longer interacts with Christine, at her behest.

DAVID WARNER, the motherfucker — David Warner was a dissenter who seduced June into working against Gloriana. He enabled June's need for validation until June was completely under his thumb, after which he convinced June to murder Karla for the sake of his affections. He abandoned June to fend for himself in the chaos resulting from Karla's murder, which backfired on him, as June confronted him about his part in her death and subsequently killed him, mirroring Karla's death.
